Water Softener

Water Softeners have a lot of hidden costs. The need for salt is obvious.

Most homeowners overlook these costs, to the allure of the cheaper upfront price of a Water Softener.  " Huge mistake from a finical standpoint."

  1. How offten the unit regenerates (uses backwash water).First is several hundreds of gallons of water used for each backwash that's basically cleaning up the resin. This hidden charge is added to your home water bill monthly. (Note: The average water softener Regenerates every 1500-2000 gallons or 2-3 days.

  2. Secondly, the electricity meter is running constantly on and off high peak. This adds to your monthly utility bills and prices change constantly depending on the time of day. The Electricity cost to keep the display memory & to cycle through your regeneration process.

  3. Cost to replace resin in the softener. Resin has a life span. Typically, resin lasts from 600,000 to 6 Million gallons depending on the manufacturer, Cost $950-$1200 to replace 2 Cubic feet of resin of averager resin, Better resin which lasts longer costs more. You get what you pay for. Manufacturers warranty on the cheaper units or 600,000 gallons or 5-year whichever comes first. This totally depends on the quality of the resin & Type of resin and the manufacturer's warranty. You get what you pay for this is why water softener has such a price range.

  4. The typical maintenance cost per visit is between $399-$500 for a service. Fleck, Pentair, GE, Kenmore, Whirlpool, etc.

  5. You can buy a cheaper Water Softener upfront, but the trade-off is higher maintenance cost because resin often does not last as long.

This is why a Water Conditioner over time is much cheaper than Water Softeners.
